HUA Ministry (Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry) has given approval for constructing about 1.12 lakh more affordable housing units for the urban homeless poor under the Central Government’s ambitious scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban’. It was stated in an official release.According to this release, a total amount of Rs. 8,105 crore will be spent for the construction of these affordable housing units. Besides this, the central government will provide an assistance of Rs 1,681 crore for their construction. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has given this approval in the 28th meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC).

The release further stated that, including this sanction, the total number of housing units sanctioned so far under the scheme would be more than 30.52 lakh. According to the latest approvals, Madhya Pradesh got the highest sanction of 34,680 houses, followed by Haryana 24,221 houses, Maharashtra 11,523 houses, Jharkhand 28,477 houses, Kerala 9836 houses and Mizoram 3,270 houses. Under the Central Government’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban, the central government has set a target of providing affordable housing units to all urban poor by the year 2022. Presently, the shortage of houses is pegged at 1.2 crore.

The online application process for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has begun. The application form for this will be filled in over 60,000 Common Service Centers established throughout the country.

This has started the process of online application for housing scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban, which will benefit the urban and the poor all over the country. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said that the housing scheme will be easy to fill forms through online application. Naidu said that between 2005 and 2014, 13.70 lakh people got the house, while the BJP government has given home to 11 lakh urban poor people in a year.
