PM swasthya suraksha yojana (PMSSY) aims at providing healthcare facilities to the citizens of the country. Its objective is to upgrade the government medical colleges and to improve the facilities for the improvement of medical education for the people.

PM swasthya suraksha yojana scheme was announced in 2003 and it was launched to improve the healthcare services in the country. It works to provide better facilities to improve the quality of medical education in India.
Components of PMSSY
- Setting AIIMS
- Upgrading Government medical colleges to improve the medical education in India.
There are six AIIMS like institutions that have been the setup under the PMSSY scheme. Rs 620 crores have to be incurred for the construction and 200 crores for the procurement of Medical equipment and operation theaters.
