PM Awas Yojana Tamil Nadu – Govt to Construct 2.66 Lakh Houses
PM Awas Yojana Tamil Nadu – The Tamil Nadu Government has planned for the construction of about 2.66 lakh affordable housing units for the people of slum areas. It will be done with the partnership with the private agencies. Recently, a Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee was held in which about 22,384 housing units were approved. Besides this, according to the sources, about 12,000 units more for slum dwellers are expected to be proposed this year based on land availability.

The Central Government’s ambitious scheme ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)’ is being implemented across the nation in four components. They are in-situ slum redevelopment, Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme, Affordable Housing in Partnership and Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC).
Center’s plan is to implement two of the components under affordable housing scheme. They are Affordable Housing in Partnership and BLC.
Under the Affordable Housing in Partnership scheme, a grant of Rs 1.6 lakh for slum dwellers will be provided by the Central Government along with the grant of 5 lakh by the State government.
Under the BLC, a grant of Rs. 2.10 lakh will be provided to the people living in kutcha or semi-pucca houses in urban areas with land tenure under which Union government’s grant will be Rs 1.5 lakh and State government Rs 60,000. This grant will be provided for the construction of their own housing. The balance cost will be bear by the beneficiaries.
According to the sources, 30 sqm carpet area should be constructed and the grant will be deposited directly into the beneficiaries bank accounts in four stages or on partial completion.
