PM Awas Yojana – Govt Reduced PMAY Target upto 1.2 Crores
PM Awas Yojana – After the latest estimations made by the state governments, the Central Government has reduced the number of houses made for the urban poor till 2022 under the center’s ambitious housing scheme i.e. Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). According to a report, the government has said that it needs to build 1.2 Crores new houses, whereas earlier this estimate was 1.8 crore. The old estimate was based on the projections of 2012.

Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation said that some states are still gathering data and the roof has been provided to these many homeless families. He said that the goal of the housing is to accelerate the construction of houses and The government will bring new technology to make the houses faster and their quality is even better. Ministry has announced a roadmap to make at least 6-8 projects in different parts of the country during the next 18 months.
According to the plan, the central government is going to call global companies for technology demonstration. Some of these companies will be selected to make cheap housing for the urban poor.
Mishra said, “The Ministry will organize a Technology Challenge for Cheap Housing Construction and Global companies will be given the opportunity to build a house at ‘least price and time’. The local material will be used in it and domestic rules will be followed for construction. ‘ This initiative is a part of the PMHA (urban) project, which aims to provide a permanent house to all the poor families by 2022.
