Govt. Approved 78,500 More Houses under PMAY for Tamil Nadu, Kerala & West Bengal

According to the latest news, the central government has given the approval for the construction of 78,500 more houses for urban poor under PMAY. These houses will be constructed with an investment of Rs 2,955 crore in three states – Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal.

However, the construction of these houses has been approved under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for providing benefits to the urban poor. The scheme was launched in June 2015.

In order to achieve the target of “Housing for All” in urban areas by 2022, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) also asked the states to gear up and submit the proposals regarding construction of affordable houses for urban poor.

HUPA Secretary Nandita Chatterjee conveyed this message during a meeting of the Central Screening and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) here.

In this meeting, an official said that the HUPA Ministry approved the construction of 78,703 affordable houses for the benefit of EWS category people in three states – Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal with an investment of Rs 2,956.32 crore. Besides this, the central government has also approved an assistance of Rs 1,180.54 crore for the construction of these houses.

According to the sources, the ministry has approved the construction of 52,336 houses in Tamil Nadu, 21,285 in West Bengal and 5,082 will be constructed in Kerala.

However, the government has already approved the construction of 15,48,846 houses at the cost of Rs 82,708 crore with central assistance of Rs 21,125.36 crore. As per the latest approval about 52,336 more houses will be constructed in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 1,942.24 crore with central assistance of Rs 785.04 crore.

At present total 2,26,572 houses has been approved for Tamil Nadu under PMAY ( Urban) with an investment of Rs 8,144 crore and central assistance of Rs 3,461 crore. While West Bengal got 21,285 more houses in the latest approval, will get an investment of Rs 861.62 crore with Central assistance of Rs 319.27 crore.

Similarly, Kerala also got the approval for construction of 5,082 more houses in the state. After the latest approval state so far has gone up to 22,467 with an investment of Rs 755 crore and central assistance of Rs 363 crore.
